VERSAILLES FOUNTAIN – NAM JUNE PAIK
1992 • MEDIA INSTALLATION
ZKM’s staff try to find as many archaic digital pack as possible. They trawl rubbish dumps and a auction site eBay in their query for authenticity.
As partial of these efforts, they lease a room outward the city where they store over 1,600 cathode ray TV sets, that are now out of production.
These old-school TVs make paramount pivotal elements of some of the artworks from the ZKM collection.
For example, Versailles Fountain from Nam June Paik uses about 40 CRT TVs. They are constantly being repaired.
Treatments/actions (in collaboration with Mirco Frass):
. Dismantling of the work
. Creation of conservation boxes for the neons
